June 2020 COVID Update

6/9/2020

Dear Patient:

We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued.

In addition, we have installed an “Air Scrubber” air treatment unit that is attached directly to our HVAC system ductwork to remove air pollution, VOCs, surface contaminants, bacteria and viruses, odors and dust. The Air Scrubber uses patent pending ActivePure Technology that consists of a special UV light and photocatalyst target. This Certified Space Technology continuously protects and purifies the air, and attacks contaminants on all surfaces. ActivePure is the only Certified Space Technology created in cooperation with NASA to protect the health of the astronauts on board the International Space Station. We have also installed 2 UVAIRx Ux105 units which drastically reduce airborne odors, VOCs, smoke, mold spores, viruses and bacteria over 90% resulting in a cleaner and healthier environment.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:

  • Our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.
  • We have a hand sanitizing station that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find sanitizer in other places in the office for you to use as needed.
  • You will see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines or books, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
  • We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at 631-669-2330 or visit our website at www.ProtoDental.com.

Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors and friends.

Sincerely, Dr. Proto and Team

MOST RECENT UPDATE TO OUR RECENT COMMUNICATION CONCERNING COVID-19

Dear Valued Patient,

During this unprecedented health crisis, changes are occurring rapidly and on a daily basis. In an effort to keep you informed regarding the latest developments and to minimize any risk to you and to our team, please be advised that all elective procedures scheduled at our office will postponed until after April 19, 2020. Governor Cuomo’s office recently issued a mandate stating that all dental offices in New York State can only treat patients on an emergency basis and that all elective procedures be postponed until after the April 19th date. That may also be subject to change.

As this unprecedented event plays out, we will reach out as necessary to keep you informed as the latest information is made available. Should you have any questions regarding an existing appointment please do not hesitate to contact our office. We will be in the office on a modified schedule to answer your calls.

Sincerely,

Christopher Proto, D.D.S.

MetLife Dental Coverage Changes

Dear MetLife Patients,

UPDATE TO OUR RECENT COMMUNICATION CONCERNING COVID-19

UPDATE TO OUR RECENT COMMUNICATION CONCERNING COVID-19

Dear Valued Patient,

During this unprecedented health crisis, changes are occurring rapidly and on a daily basis. In an effort to keep you informed regarding the latest developments and to minimize any risk to you and to our team, please be advised that all elective procedures scheduled at our office will postponed until after April 8, 2020. On the recommendation of the American Dental Association, we will be available for you on an emergency basis during the next three weeks.

As this unprecedented event plays out, we will reach out as necessary to keep you informed as the latest information is made available. Should you have any questions regarding an existing appointment please do not hesitate to contact our office.

On a case by case basis, some follow up appointments that were already scheduled and reviewed by Dr. Proto will be left as is. Again, if you have questions regarding the status of your appointment, please do not hesitate to call. We will be in the office on a modified schedule to answer your calls.

Below is the recommendation of the American Dental Association.

“The American Dental Association (ADA) recognizes the unprecedented and extraordinary circumstances dentists and all health care professionals face related to growing concern about COVID-19. The ADA is deeply concerned for the health and well-being of the public and the dental team.

In order for dentistry to do its part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the ADA recommends dentists nationwide postpone elective procedures for the next three weeks. Concentrating on emergency dental care will allow us to care for our emergency patients and alleviate the burden that dental emergencies would place on hospital emergency departments.

As health care professionals, it is up to dentists to make well-informed decisions about their patients and practices. The ADA is committed to providing the latest information to the profession in a useful and timely manner.

The ADA is continually evaluating and will update its recommendation on an ongoing basis as new information becomes available. Please visit
ADA.org/virus for the latest information.”

Sincerely,

Christopher Proto, D.D.S.
